TEEN SCENE STUDY
In 1990, I participated in the Governor's Honors Program, which is a summer program for Georgia high school sophomores and juniors. I participated in the Theatre program, and was honored to be asked back as guest interviewer for the 2023 program.
When asked, "what do you want out of the program," the answer I got back more than 80% of the time was "character development." The students interviewing for a spot in this years program felt they were not getting proper training in developing characters for performance.
Beginning Monday, June 5, 2023 we will launch the next series, "Basics of Building a Character."
Class will meet over Zoom for two hours, once a week for four weeks.
Each week, students will work from each week from selected sides, one on one with constructive criticism, followed by redirect. Each week, we will discuss how to create a character from the ground up. This is an actors workout, where big, bold choices are encouraged.
Students will be asked in advance for a list of characters and plays they would like to develop.
Class open to Students aged 15-18.
- Week One: "Intro" - Participants will perform a monologue our their choice, based on a character they would like to develop.
- Week Two: "Inspiration" - Building on class from the previous week, students will perform new monologues, based on research from the previous week.
- Week Three: "Intention" - Participants will focus on scene work with a reader, as we dive into the intentions and "wants" of the character.
- Week Four: "In Performance" - Participants will perform an original monologue of their character and discuss the research, inspiration, and intention of the study.
$100 for 4 weeks.
Class Limited to 10.
